“Encounter” By: Linghua “Winnie” Wang

It has not been a long while after the Soviet Union had been disintegrated. People paraded on streets with swirling dust, shouting, “Megszabad a Magyarország!” Thomasz Zaszlo, an anonymous wanderer, yet, felt that his life has never been changed. There were people saying that the wanderers on streets are the only ones who can hear the heartbeat of the malicious world and humanity, yet, in Thomasz’ mind, the outside world didn’t really matter to him, and what lay in the Earth’s crust of the society were the trivia sparkling with aesthetics, philosophy and amoureux, which were rarely known to people. In the world nowadays, changes happen everyday and everywhere just like the explosions of supernova, and an individualist and isolationist like Thomasz just could not keep up with its pace.

With a nylon satchel laying limply on his shoulder, Thomasz liked to stay at the Budapest Nyugati Pályaudvar. Though he hasn’t been able to afford a train ticket for many years, by saying this, he was much more pathetic than Noodles in Once Upon a Time in America, who could still at least afford a ticket for the random first bus. He enjoyed the feeling of being “on the road”, a sense of belonging to nobody, as if he had a choice. Holding his lanky skeleton, his aquamarine pupil scrutinised the glass skylight of the train station, but on a sun-drenched autumn morning, which had nothing special, something else attracted him. It was an old and yellow movie poster, “My Summer Departure.” He read the words as he caressed the poster. There was a young and gorgeous actress on it, whose scarlet rouge seemed natural on her lips. Her voluptuous figure was covered with ivory silk gown, which rippled as the wind flowed through the gap between the wall and the poster. Thomasz could hardly even hold his breath. At that moment, the panorama of his illusion turned into a kaleidoscope with concrete shape and image of red and white. The lady became his inviolable and glamorous Venus resembling his desire, his cognition, his hope and his impossible dream. Thus, Thomasz decided to replicate his destined encounter as thousands, millions and billions of repetitions cast life, reincarnation and parallel world.
