A sultry afternoon, the sunshine passed through the window and shone on the white bed sheet. Allison is bored and had nothing to do. She was a naughty, but smart girl and was always be a leader of the children. In this morning, the others went to school to a reading activity. It is fun, but not for Alison. Without her friends, what she can do is to wait for them to come back. “ What a lonely day!”, she sighed. She hanged around in the house. An old wooden door attracted her. “ I don’t think there has a door,” Alison whispered. Because of curiousness, she opened the door and stepped inside. There was darkness and saw nothing. Only she could hear some noise from opening the door. Alison was brave and fearless. She grabbed a candle and matches. The room had light and it became brighter. A dressing-table was standing at the centre of the room. Alison saw her reflection on the mirror.
She stepped in front to get closer to the mirror. It was old and has much dust on it. Suddenly, the mirror became fuzzy and started to change. A forest appeared inside the mirror, not only the picture but she can also heard the sound. “ What happened…?” stammered Alison. There was a voice, “come and help us” that passed to Alison’s mind. She touched the mirror but felt nothing, so she got her head into it. There was a forest with lots of sweets and chocolates. The leaves of the trees were made of mint chocolate and the root was made by cookies, and flowers were icing but painted with different colors. She could not control herself to move into this wonderland. “Where is this place?” Alison babbled. “ Welcome to Queen’s Land, our royal guest!” a voice shouted. Alison was frightened and looked backward. She saw a cat with dark fur and light blue eyes that were as clear as the ocean. Alison always imagines some strange creature such as talking animals and flying horses. She cannot adapt immediately and screamed. The cat was more scared than her because of her loud voice. He asked Alison to calm down and explain to her where she is. The cat introduced to her. “ You are in the Queen’s Land now. The door you just passed through is our front gate. My name is Mr. Pumpkin and I am a soldier who protects this place.” Alison’s dream became a reality and she still cannot believe it. “ You created this wonderland and everything inside. Don’t you remember? We sometimes appear in your dream. All of this are your imagination.” “ So I am sleeping now? I will come back home when I wake up?” Alison asked. “ Hmmm… I don’t think so. You can find out about the mirror and there must be a reason for you to come. Oh! Do you come here to help us to fight against the Queen?” exclaimed Mr. Pumpkin. Alison totally did not know what he was talking about. Mr. Pumpkin invited her to his home and told her everything.
The Queen’s Land was a peaceful place before. People were happy to live in here because the King was nice and Queen was kind-hearted. The people from the whole kingdom were treated fairly no matter who they were and what the job they had, but the peace only lasted for 8 years. The King and the Queen died because their ship crashed unto the giant reef. They fell into the deep sea. Everyone had a hard time, but it still needed a leader for the Queen’s Land. The eldest sister of the King was elected to be the new Queen. She was called Mai. She had a long golden hair and her skin was as white as snow. She was the beauty in the kingdom, and lots of citizens would be attracted by her appearance. At the beginning, people appreciated her as the queen. Mai was kind and cared about her people. Six months ago, she became selfish and cruel. She didn’t come out of the castle to see her people anymore and she started to detest about being the queen of the realm. Mai wanted her own army and get more power to fight against other countries. She forced the people, even the children and elders to join the army. Mr. Pumpkin saw every family suffered from the new rule, so he begged Mai to consider it carefully. Mai could not accept any complaint, or she would think they were disobeying her. People were afraid to join the army, some of them escaped from Queen’s Land; and some people broke their legs. They wanted to take down Mai’s throne, but Mai was so powerful because she learnt some dark magic. An old wise man told Mr. Pumpkin that a girl would suddenly appear and beat Queen Mai. So Allison was the one.
Allison understood and volunteered to help them, but they need to find her way home after she beat Mai. Mr. Pumpkin took Allison to meet his allies who were also fighting against Mai. They made a plan and started to set off. Mai had 3 huge dogs to protect her, and they will attack when they smell animals. They asked Allison’s help because the dogs would not attack human. So they gave Allison a map of the castle to beat Mai. They could help Allison to climb over the high wall.
Peter was a giraffe and he let Allison ride on his neck and jumped over the Wall. The others waited outside and made some trouble to get Mai’s attention. Mr. Pumpkin passed through a small hole and into the castle, so he could help Allison if she was stuck.
Allison entered the castle successfully with Peter’s help. She looked at the map and found Mai’s room. The castle was very large with a hundred of rooms. Although she was a human, but she could not be seen by the dogs. They might report to Mai and the plan would fail. She walked through the corridor quietly and carefully. Mai was sleeping in the bed, but one of the huge dog was behind her. Allison crept to near Mai and the huge dog. She took a powder which Mr. Pumpkin gave her to anaesthetize the dog, it fell in a deep sleep immediately. Mai felt something was coming, she woke up and saw Alison. She was shocked and started to use her magic to kill Allison, but Allison was smart and learnt some tricks from the other children when they played. She spread out a lot of flour to Mai’s face. Mai could not see anything at that moment and the magic was useless if she could not see Alison. Allison had a knife and stabbed it into Mai’s Heart. The blood flooded out and she immediately dropped on the ground. Mai was still alive at that time, then she tried to run and ask for help from the guards, but she was caught by Allison and pushed her to the wall. More and more blood came out from Mai and she had no strength to fight back. Mai died in front of Alison in full rage. The Mad Queen is gone.
Following their plan, Allison should come out and meet the other. When she looked around Mai’s room and opened her closet. She was enchanted by power and money at that moment. “ How wonderful her life is! I wish I can be as rich as her…” Allison grabbed Mai’s crown and dressed and put on them. “ Oh, it’s pretty nice”, she whispered, and she made a choice.
Now she is the new Queen.
Alison did not want to come home anymore. She had already forgotten Mr. Pumpkin and others. The guards found Mai’s body, but could not catch Allison because of the crown. She asked them to bury the body. Mr. Pumpkin saw that and tried to stop Allison make the mistake as Mai. Allison became a different person and could not recognize him. She ordered the guards to throw this little cat into the cell. Mr. Pumpkin was caught and sent to prison. The allies of Mr. Pumpkin were also executed. They had no chance to fight against the Queen again.
Allison became the new Mai, the Mad Queen.
The whole city was in darkness. The sun hid behind the clouds. It didn’t dare to see how horrible the world would be. The wind blew the trees strongly and they sounded like screaming. People in town are still confused about what happened, but they might know very soon.
Mr. Pumpkin and his friends could not predict what the country would be, but they only knew that things would get worse than before.
