“Beep, beep, beep,” It was midnight when the alert or of KIWI MANSION made these noisy sound. The security rushed to monitor screen from his slimy bed, seeing a human with all black running out of the archives room like a shot. “Oh my god,” he snapped, grabbed an interphone from the table. “Archives on the 23rd floor had been breached!”
It is 8 a.m. when Veronika gets a phone call from Tommy, “ Good morning my friend, what causes you to give me this call?” “It’s hard to explain to you on the phone, Veron, anyway, I really need your help this time. Are you able to come to KIWI at nine? There will be someone to pick you up,” Tommy’s tired and weak sound transferring to Veronika from the other side. “Sure,” Veronika’s tone becomes serious, she knows there was something bad that happened to Tommy’s company.
“That guy stole a recent classified file. Without the document, we are going to lose the most important project we spent three months on it,” Tommy sighed heavily to Veronika who arrived at his office just now. “ There is just a week from the first bid, that person must go to sell the file to my competitors.”
Veronika is silent for a while, bracing her chin with her hands, “ I know what you mean, I can find out the betrayer before the bid, but you need to assist me during the process. Now, just tell me who are the suspects.”
“ We are not sure about the suspects, but he or she must come from the logistics department. Otherwise that guy will not be so familiar with the position of the documents——he or she even maintain the tidiness of the floor! The person just went directly to the target!” Tommy shouts without controlling his temper.
“Calm down now, take me to the monitor room. Maybe I can find some clue by it,” Veronika speaks amusingly, “I hope the monitors in your company are clear enough.”
“Alice! Have you heard that we will have a fun day the day after tomorrow? I can’t wait to take part in it, by the way, our department was allotted to take part in running this year” Abigail shouts out loudly to her friend Alice in the lounge.
“Really? Why is that so suddenly? I am not good at running at all!” Alice puts down her cup of black tea, trying to accept this information.
Abigail pouts and murmurs, “Oh come on my darling, for our bonus, please win! Otherwise, I’m going to supervise you for practicing running after work these days!”
“Alright, alright, I will listen to you. We can practice for a while in the later in the afternoon.” Alice smiles helplessly, feeling nervous in her heart.
“Stop! Look at here. This is the clearest figure that the suspect left,” Tommy snaps, looking at the screen frowned, crossing his hands.
Veronika pats on his shoulder, “Sometimes we don’t need a specific appearance to determine the suspect. Anyway, I will give you a proper answer after that fun day, trust me.”
“Tap-tap,tap-tap,” Elison, who is Tommy’s assistant enters, “Mr. Lee, there is a meeting with management from Oracle tonight. Do you need to cancel it?” He reported the agenda and carefully, waited for his boss’ response.
Tommy sighed sadly, “Oh look at that, I was so busy that I nearly forget it. I will depart very soon. Will Wason change shift with you later?”
“No, not like that, Mister, Alice said Abigail is going to practice hers after work, so she will not be with me tonight,” Elison said patiently. “practicing for what?” Finally, Tommy seems to look better, asking this interesting question.
Elison replies, thinking of why the topic has changed so quickly, “Uh, they said they are going to practicing running, for the bonus on Friday. Alice claimed she is always poor at running, so she is nervous. ”
Veronika leaning against the wall, taking in every word that the two people just said in front of her. Suddenly, she laughed. “Haha! I think we are going to find out the suspect very soon.”
It seems Tommy was quite wise to set the fun day on such a sunny day. It is not too hot but really cool when a gentle wind passes by. Veronika enters the court with her standard clothing; a rufous shirt, dark-blue suit jacket, black pant, brown high heels, and her sunglasses. She ignores the gazes from others who wear sports clothes, and sits down near the track then waits for the game to start.
Unlike others, Veronika knows clearly about why she is here and what is her purpose. After all the runners finished their games, she goes directly to where Tommy is sitting at, whispers to him quietly, “I need to talk with two of your worker, Alice, and Abigail. Alice first!”
“Are you sure? I know both of them, they are all excellent and experienced workers in KIWI. Alice is Edison’s girlfriend and Abigail is known as hardworking and patient. Give me some time to accept that you doubt them,” Tommy emphasizes to her with a low voice.
Soon, Alice was called to a resting room which Veronika sitting in. She is still sweating and her breath is not constant. She stares at Veronika as staring at a stranger, walking into the room slowly.
“Relaxed!” Veronika gives her a kind smile, “I just hope you to answer some of my confusion,” she shrugs.
“It is nervous but plausible for Tommy to ask her to meet with him,” Abigail, at least in the beginning. When she steps in the room, she sees two people are sitting in front of a table. Tommy was angry, and a lady she doesn’t know is quite light-hearted.
“Hi Abigail, I’m detector Veronika, could you please tell us why you stole the secret document from KIWI?” Veronika looks up to the woman stands in front of her, “ teasing” her in an unacceptable way.
Abigail is shocked for a while, but she hides her expression very soon, “It’s nice to meet you, Ms. Veronika. Lots of thanks for your help us in finding out who the undoer, we are suffering painfully during this period. However, I think there should be some misunderstanding, I am not the one who stole the document,” she stresses in the last sentence.
“Oh Tommy, look at her. She is so nervous!” Veronika laughs out loudly and unexpectedly. “Try this cup of tea, Abigail. Don’t worry, we already knew that Alice was the suspect,” she soothes Abigail tenderly.
Abigail’s heart comes to calmness. She takes a deep breath, trying hard to keep her perfect countenance, “ Your joke really terrified me, Ms. Veronika. Alice is a good worker of KIWI, how would she…”
“Abigail,” Veronika interrupts her long and bored plea, “you are so smart. You taught Alice the way you run, she waved her hand like you today, I nearly believed that she was the undoer just now. ” She pauses a while and continues, “But I thought deeply, combined with the information I got before, Alice is not good at sports. As a friend, you forced her to practice running under your supervision. She and her fiancé Edison bought lots of share of KIWI years ago. It’s hard to imagine how rich they are if they are willing to let KIWI lose this big project through this way. Abigail, you chose the wrong scapegoat.”
“It’s not me! No, Mr. Tommy and Ms. Veronika, I’m not that guy! Believe me,” Abigail blurts at the top of her lungs, she shakes her head continuously, trying to convince Tommy who didn’t give a single word just now.
Tommy leans his body forward for a bit, hisses, “You are always the most top worker in KIWI. You are always so nice and selfless in all our minds. It’s nonsense for you to do so.”
What Tommy said just like the blasting fuse of Abigail’s temper, she bellows, “I know clearly that I am nice and hardworking, but then you see the result. I am now 37 years old and I work in KIWI for 13 years, I am just at the same level as that 25-year-old Alice! I am unconvinced, it’s not fair!” she cried out uncontrollably.
“Tell me which company did you sell the document to. Maybe you still have a chance to curtail your crime,” Veronika stands up, insinuates without hiding, “If you think the level for you in prison will be better than what you own right now, then you can choose not to say anything.”
No one can escape from Veronika’s pressure, soon Abigail speaks out the company that bought the document. Veronika picks up the bag she took to the court in the morning, tidies her clothes and looks at Tommy who is lost in thought. With a big smile, “ then the police will solve the problem, right?”
“Uh, yeap, thank you, Ron. I am thinking of changing the way I motivate my workers in the future,” Tommy replied slowly.
“The best way to motivate a worker is to pay enough money. At least I will be motivated by this.” Veronika takes off her sunglasses and gives a wink, “Free for this time, but remember to pay me double next time.” Then she walks away without giving Tommy any time for reaction.
“There will not be the next time!” Tommy shouts out aloud after he is late to catch on.
